Adoption Fundraiser an 'Amazing Coincidence' for Concannon Miller Shareholder

Find me on:

Dining_with_Diakon_Image.jpgWhen Concannon Miller Shareholder Andrea Brady was asked to be a celebrity chef for Dining with Diakon for Adoption & Foster Care, she gave an immediate yes.

It wasn’t due to a connection with cooking. Actually, Andrea readily admits she can’t cook.

Rather, it was a different connection that struck Andrea so strongly. Andrea was adopted when she was an infant – and through Diakon for Adoption & Foster Care.

“Adoption and foster care is something I hold dear in my heart,” Andrea says. “To be asked to help out Diakon is an amazing coincidence.”

The other good news for Andrea is that she won’t have to cook. As a celebrity chef, she picks a dish for her partner professional chef to make – their dish will be a made-to-order risotto bar – and helps with the service.

She said she feels more comfortable with the celebrity chefs’ other duty – fundraising. Andrea hopes to raise even more than the minimum $5,000 donation.

“My heart is really into this great fundraiser for such a vital organization,” she says.

Andrea’s family is also incredibly touched she’ll be helping out the organization she was adopted through.

“It’s ironic she was picked by the same agency she was brought to us from,” her mom, Pat Condomitti, says. “It’s a full circle.”

Adoption has been an incredible gift to their family, which also has other adopted members, they say.

Every night when Andrea was little, her mom would read her “The Chosen Baby,” a children’s book about how a couple who had always wanted a baby selected theirs to be adopted.

“One night, when she was 3 or 4, Andrea said, ‘That’s not how it happened – I was up in heaven and I picked you and Daddy,’” Pat says. “It’s very emotional even today when I think about it. We feel we were truly blessed.”

Diakon, which is part of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, has been running adoption services in Eastern Pennsylvania since 1868.

The Dining with Diakon Taste of Italy event is Oct. 4 at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. The event includes wine from South Italy Imports and Italian themed dishes, including garlic and rosemary infused lollipop lamb chops and braised red wine short ribs with creamy polenta.

Tickets for the event can be purchased here: https://www.diakon.org/dining-with-diakon-adoption/register/ and general donations can be made in Andrea’s name here: https://www.diakon.org/dining-with-diakon-adoption/donate/andrea-brady/
