nsbw-banner-new.700.395.s.jpgSmall businesses are the lifeblood of the U.S. economy.

That’s recognized nationally through National Small Business Week and locally through the Pennsylvania Small Business Week.

Both weeks run April 30 through May 6, and both the federal and state governments are holding multiple free webinars providing small businesses with tax, financing, marketing and other guidance.

In the Lehigh Valley region, the Kutztown Small Business Development Center is holding three free events during Small Business Week. Their events are:

  • Business Planning in a Nutshell: 5:30-7 p.m. Monday online. Business planning workshop for business owners who need a little extra help developing their pitch, business plan and cash flow statement.
  • Business Smart: 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce in Kutztown. Gain a basic understanding of the key steps to getting your business off the ground and become a successful entrepreneur.

  • First Step to Starting Your Business: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 5 at 454 New Holland Ave. in Lancaster. The workshop is designed for both entrepreneurs thinking about opening their first business and existing business owners looking for a “checkup.”

The Kutztown SBDC serves Berks, Chester, Dauphin, Lancaster, and Lebanon counties. More information about their programs can be obtained by calling 877-472-7232 or emailing sbdc@kutztown.edu.

Lehigh, Northampton, Upper Bucks and Northern Montgomery counties are served by the Lehigh SBDC based at Lehigh University in Bethlehem. While the center doesn’t have any Small Business Week programs, it holds regular seminars.

Upcoming are a seminar on how to respond to a government request for proposal on May 10 and a small business financing seminar on May 16. More details can be found here.
